The Social Scene: Necessary Human Interaction

I have spent a sizeable portion of this #blogathon discussing the power and capability of ChatGPT critically. I have used, and I assume, many other people use it directly and personally. One-on-one, so to speak. Through this approach, I have built some interesting things over the last two months - Bird Strike Bot and a fast-time simulation. However, I still enjoy the much less predictable but often fruitful world of human interaction, whether it’s an active social media life or traditional methods like networking and formal education.

Inspiration

A bunch of people have inspired me to write this post by sharing this diagram over the last week.

I just did some digging and found that it is at least three years old and was developed by the Air Transport Action Group. It has come to me at a fortuitous time as I have been developing a university course on airport management, and lesson one will include a discussion on airport stakeholders.

I was looking at either adopting a model from one of the set texts or drawing my own, but this image is recent, comprehensive and engaging. So, I think I’ve found the lynchpin of my discussion.

Formal Education

Yes, I have finally secured a casual engagement in the tertiary education sector. And it is a course on my favourite subject - airports. So, someone just agreed to pay me to talk for a couple of hours a week about what I do. I will, of course, develop a structured program and look forward to planning it out.

Formal education has been a big part of my career and, for me, encompasses everything from short in-house courses to vocational qualifications and university degrees. Whether foundational or extension courses, I could only do what I do know with that training and education.

Even my series on fast-time simulation was only possible with the three-day course I did on Python programming back at the start of COVID. My instructor, Jason, provided the necessary background information and initial building blocks to get me going. Without this, ChatGPT’s advice and sample code would have looked like gibberish.

Social Media

I don’t think a day goes by when I don’t read or share some insightful posts from LinkedIn. I also use it to promote this blog. It would be the source of most of my traffic. Although, some posts are first page and number one results for their common search terms. I have made some great connections on social media, with a few merging into the real world.

Conferences & Air Shows

Speaking of the real world, hasn’t it been great getting back out there and seeing people again? Last year was quite busy for me with the AAA Safety Forum, Ops Swap and the AAWHG Forum. I also travelled to the US to meet up with the ICAO WHMEG.

And 2023 is kicking off with a boom.

I’ll be at Avalon 2023 with the CASA team. I’ll be on the stand on Tuesday and Wednesday of the industry days. I’ll be there to talk about vertiports, but I’ll be happy to discuss anything aerodromes related.

The Penultimate Wrap Up

I’ll wrap up the #blogathon more formally tomorrow but just for today, let me provide you with a very human thank you. Thank you for visiting my blog, reacting or commenting on my LinkedIn posts, and being part of my human network.
